Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi's AFCON participation is in doubt following an injury suffered by both players few day's to 2023 AFCON, though, the club has released the injured duo for National Team duty, but it's not certain if they will be in Côte d'Ivoire.
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that the striker and the midfielder have been released for National Team duty in a comment which reads as follows, “Kelechi and Wilfred are both currently injured, but they are going to go with the international team, we will see if Nigeria want to include them or send them back as I said, they both have an injury at the moment,” Enzo commented on the club website after Leicester City 4-1 thrashing of Huddersfield Town on New Year Day, a game where both players were absent.
Terem Moffi and Alhassan Yusuf were included in Jose Peseiro provisional squad, but did not make the final 25-man list released by the manager few days ago, but the injury of Iheanacho and Ndidi looks to have favoured the duo of Moffi and Alhassan.
Moffi is currently in a good form for Nice in the French Ligue 1 and will serve as a better replacement for Iheanacho, while Alhassan Yusuf who plays as a midfielder for Belgian First Division A club Royal Antwerp is going to be a possible replacement for Ndidi.
Nigeria Camp for 2023 AFCON in Abu Dhabi has opened today, and the Super Eagles is in Group A alongside Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea. Nigeria will kick off their 2023 AFCON campaign against Equatorial Guinea on the 14th of January, before playing Côte d'Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau in their remaining two Group games. The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will hold between 13th January to 11th February, 2024 in Côte d'Ivoire.
