Some days back, the news that Nosa Igiebor quit the National team hit the media from the first Sports Radio in Africa popularly known as Brila FM.
The Turkish Based Midfielder was quoted to have said that he will not play for the Super Eagles again as long as Gernot Rohr still remains the manager. "We are like brothers, we move as a gang. We even pay Ogenyi Onazi visits."
"I'll honor the call if I'm going to get the opportunity to play. But I won't come to sit on the bench."
"Truly, only 11 players can play. But, there's a way the Coach relates with you that gives you assurances."
"If the players are better than me, it's a different case, but not in this situation. I was ready to work."
"However, the manner I was ignored despite the gulf in quality made me sense something was fishy in the team."
The former Real Betis player confirm further on owngoalnigeria that he granted an interview with Brila FM. Yes I granted an interview to a radio station in Nigeria, it’s true I'm no longer interested in playing for Nigeria as long as Rohr remains the coach. He disrespected me,” Igiebor told Owngoalnigeria.com. "He (Rohr) treated me like I’m nobody, I won’t honour any more calls unless if he assures me that I will play. I can’t watch players I'm better than play ahead of me”. Emmanuel Nosakhare Igiebor later said that all the stories are false on his instagram page.
''My attention has been drawn to a story by an online website ( www.owngoalnigeria.com ) that I will no longer honour national team call ups again,'' said Nosa on Instagram. ''Let me use this opportunity to disassociate myself from this malicious report as there is no truth in it. ''I remain committed to national service whenever I am called upon. God Bless Nigeria.''
There seems to be an element of truth in the report especially from the original source in Brila FM, but however, Nosa simply cannot hack it with the calibre of midfielders currently in the Super Eagles team from the likes of Alex Iwobi, Uche Agbo, Ogenyi Onazi, Wilfred Ndidi, John Ogu, John Obi Mikel, Ogenekaro Etebo and some others.
He did well with the U-23 National team alongside Nnamdi Oduamadi scoring goals with reckless abandon while he also shone like a million star for Lillestrøm in Norway where he was scoring and assisting the unstoppable Anthony Ujah.
Nosa made his senior debut sooner in 2012 and he could be remembered for his brilliant goal against Venezuela from the halfway line and he also scored an away goal in Liberia in an Afcon qualifying match that ended in 2-2.
South Africa 2013 came and a lot was expected from him that he was asked to even play as the team number 10 in front of John Obi Mikel. Nosa failed to take the opportunity as he was lackluster against Burkina Faso and Zambia leading to Ogenyi Onazi and Sunday Mba having the chance to play the all important match versus Ethiopia ahead of Nosa and Fegor Ogude and also in Subsequent matches.
The result of his regression has seen him had just 15 appearances even though he won four club trophies in Israeli league over the years.
Gernot Rohr called him up last year and the Franco-German was widely critised for ignoring the best Israeli League best foreign player and selecting another player playing same position from same league and it led to John Ogu since then gradually becoming an integral part of the team.
Nosa Igiebor watched John Obi Mikel,Kelechi Iheanacho,Alex Iwobi,Ogenyi Onazi,Wilfred Ndidi and Anderson Esiti beats Zambia 2-1 from the bench in Ndola last October.
