Flamingos Soar: Nigeria U17 Women's Team Secures 2025 World Cup Spot

Nigeria's U17 women's national team, the Flamingos, have officially qualified for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup in Morocco, following a 0-0 draw against Algeria in the second leg of their final qualifying round. This result, combined with their commanding 4-0 victory in the first leg held in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, secured a 4-0 aggregate win for the Nigerian side.

The first leg saw standout performances from Queen Joseph, who netted a brace, and additional goals from Zainab Raji and substitute Aisha Animashaun, setting a strong foundation for the team's qualification.

In the return fixture at Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, Algeria, the Flamingos displayed tactical discipline, effectively managing the game to maintain their aggregate lead. Despite the chilly conditions, the team held firm, ensuring their progression to the World Cup finals.

With this achievement, Nigeria joins Morocco (as hosts), Cameroon, and Côte d'Ivoire as Africa's representatives in the tournament. The 2025 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 17 to November 8, 2025, marking the first time the competition will be held in Africa.

This qualification continues Nigeria's strong presence in the U17 Women's World Cup history, having missed only one edition since the tournament's inception in 2008.

The Flamingos' consistent performance in the qualifiers underscores the team's dedication and the effectiveness of their development programs. As they prepare for the global stage, the nation looks forward to their continued success and representation at the highest levels of youth women's football.
