This latest triumph also marked Liverpool’s 14th consecutive unbeaten away match (W9 D5) in the league, with only their 21-game streak from January 2019 to February 2020 surpassing this current run.
Salah's Landmark Performance
Salah was the difference-maker once again, reaching 301 career goals in European club football with his double. The Egyptian forward also recorded 20+ Premier League goals in a single season for the fifth time, having previously done so in 2017-18, 2018-19, 2020-21, and 2021-22.
The breakthrough came in the 31st minute, when Salah confidently dispatched a penalty into the bottom-right corner after a foul on Cody Gakpo by Steve Cook. Bournemouth thought they had equalized just minutes later, but David Brooks' goal was disallowed due to an offside in the build-up.
The Cherries came close to leveling in the second half when Justin Kluivert failed to convert from close range after Marcus Tavernier’s strike hit the post. Liverpool wasted no time punishing that miss, as Curtis Jones led a swift counter-attack before feeding Salah, who cut inside and curled a signature finish past Kepa in the 70th minute.
Liverpool’s Control and Bournemouth’s Frustration
Statistically, Liverpool dominated the contest, making the most of their 2.66 expected goals (xG) while Bournemouth struggled to capitalize on their 1.00 xG. The defeat was only the second time this season that Bournemouth have lost by two or more goals, both coming against Liverpool (3-0 in September, 2-0 in this match).
With this result, Liverpool have strengthened their grip on the title race, while Bournemouth will look to regroup after their first league defeat since November.
