Dembélé Joins Elite Company
Following his three-goal haul against Stuttgart in the Champions League, Dembélé joined an exclusive list of players from Europe’s top five leagues to achieve consecutive hat-tricks in the last five seasons. Only Erling Haaland (three times), Harry Kane (twice), and Karim Benzema had previously reached this milestone.
A Dominant First Half for PSG
PSG took early control of the match, dictating possession and forcing Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot into several crucial saves. Dembélé was denied twice before Bradley Barcola set him up for his first goal in the 29th minute, calmly slotting past Bizot to put the visitors ahead.
Despite creating opportunities, Brest lacked a finishing touch in the first half and went into the break trailing.
Brest’s Fightback Falls Short
The hosts came out sharper in the second half, and their renewed energy paid off quickly. In the 50th minute, Ronaël Pierre-Gabriel Lala’s long ball found Romain Del Castillo, who struck past Gianluigi Donnarumma to level the score at 1-1.
However, PSG’s quality shone through, with Dembélé netting twice more within 12 minutes, assisted by Marquinhos and Lee Kang-in, to complete his hat-trick and restore PSG’s dominance.
Brest refused to back down, as Ludovic Ajorque fired in a powerful strike from the edge of the box, reducing the deficit to 3-2 and setting up a tense final phase of the match.
Ramos Seals the Points for PSG
With Brest pushing for an equalizer, Gonçalo Ramos came off the bench to score twice in the dying minutes, securing PSG’s victory and sealing a 5-2 win.
PSG’s Commanding Position in Ligue 1
With 50 points from 20 matches (W15, D5), PSG remains firmly in control of the title race. Only PSG (1985-86, 2015-16, 2017-18, 2018-19) and Lyon (2006-07) have reached this tally at this stage of a season in the French top flight.
Meanwhile, Brest have now lost three of their last four matches in all competitions, after a strong run of six wins in seven before this slump.
What’s Next?
PSG will look to maintain their dominance when they host Monaco next weekend, while Brest will aim to bounce back as they travel to face Nantes.
