The announcement was confirmed by NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, who expressed optimism about Chelle’s appointment. Gusau appealed to Nigerians to rally behind the new coach, emphasizing the nation’s passion for football and the need for collective support to ensure success.
“We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about the game of football, and that is the reason for the different tones of reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle,” Gusau stated. “However, the NFF hereby appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles. The NFF will give him all the support that he needs to succeed in the job.”
At the unveiling ceremony, the NFF will also reveal the names of Coach Chelle’s assistants. The coaching team will first guide the Super Eagles B squad at next month’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) in East Africa. Afterward, their focus will shift to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, starting with matches against Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home) in March.
Éric Chelle, a seasoned tactician with vast experience in African football, is expected to bring fresh ideas and a renewed drive to the Super Eagles. His appointment has sparked mixed reactions among football fans, but the NFF is confident in his ability to lead the team to new heights.
The Super Eagles, a three-time African champion and one of Africa’s most prominent football teams, will look to Chelle to restore the team’s dominance on the continent and secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Football enthusiasts across Nigeria and beyond will keenly follow Monday’s unveiling, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Super Eagles.
