Maniema Union struck first in the 38th minute through Congolese forward Jafty Kitambala, who finished off a well-executed counterattack. Sundowns, however, dominated the second half and found the equalizer in the 83rd minute through Namibian striker Peter Shalulile, who converted a pinpoint cross.
The game seemed destined for a draw until a late own goal by Maniema defender Exosya Mwanda in stoppage time gifted Sundowns the decisive goal. With this victory, Sundowns move to eight points, holding second place in Group B, while Maniema Union, on three points, are eliminated from quarter-final contention.
