FAR Rabat Secure Historic CAF Champions League Quarter-Finals Spot After Draw with Raja Casablanca

FAR Rabat has made history by booking their place in the quarter-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League for the first time in the group stage era. The Royal Army achieved this milestone after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against their Moroccan rivals, Raja Casablanca, on Saturday night in Rabat.

The match saw intense action and drama, with FAR Rabat taking the lead in the 40th minute. A corner kick from the hosts resulted in an own goal by Raja goalkeeper Anas Zniti, giving the Royal Army a crucial advantage.

Raja Casablanca, determined to fight back, equalized in the 77th minute. Noufel Zerhouni coolly converted a penalty after Maamouri was fouled in the box, leveling the scoreline and reigniting the visitors' hopes.

The game took another dramatic turn moments later when Issa Ben Omar found the back of the net for Raja, but the goal was disallowed for a foul on the FAR goalkeeper, leaving the visitors frustrated.

With this result, FAR Rabat sits atop Group B with nine points, securing their place in the quarter-finals with two matches to spare. Meanwhile, Raja Casablanca remains on five points, facing a challenging path to qualification as they look to climb back into contention in the remaining group games.

FAR Rabat’s historic achievement is a testament to their consistent performances in the competition, while Raja Casablanca must regroup and deliver strong results in the coming matches to keep their quarter-finals hopes alive.
