This decision comes following a recommendation from CAF's Technical and Infrastructure experts, who have been actively monitoring the progress in the three host nations. While significant advancements have been made in the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other essential facilities, more time is needed to ensure these meet CAF’s stringent standards for hosting a successful tournament.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the host countries—President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda—for their unwavering commitment and leadership.
“I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda,” Dr. Motsepe said. “I am confident that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure will meet the required CAF standards to host a very successful CHAN tournament in August 2025.”
The draw for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship will still take place as scheduled on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, in Nairobi at 20:00 local time.
CAF has assured stakeholders and fans that the exact dates for the rescheduled tournament in August 2025 will be announced in due course. The organization remains committed to delivering a world-class championship that reflects the progress and dedication of the host nations.
