CAF Increases Prize Money for CHAN 2024 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in February 2025.

Key Highlights:

  • Prize Money for the Winner: Raised by 75% to USD 3.5 million.
  • Total Prize Pool: Increased by 32% to USD 10.4 million.

CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, emphasized the importance of CHAN as a platform for Africa-based players to showcase their talent, stating, "This competition is integral to the development of African football and will significantly enhance the global competitiveness of African players and CAF tournaments."

CHAN 2024 Schedule and Participants:

The tournament will run from February 1 to February 28, 2025, featuring 19 nations.

Qualified Teams:

  1. Hosts: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda
  2. Other Qualified Nations:
    • Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria
    • Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Sudan
    • Zambia, Angola, Madagascar

Two additional teams will secure qualification after the final round of matches.

Dr. Motsepe added that CHAN plays a vital role in nurturing young talent and raising the profile of African football on the world stage.
