PSG End Lyon’s Unbeaten Streak with 3-1 Victory

Paris Saint-Germain ended Lyon's impressive 10-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1 with a comprehensive 3-1 win at the Parc des Princes on Saturday night. Despite a valiant effort from Lyon, PSG were dominant throughout, extending their lead at the top of the table with a performance that showcased both their attacking prowess and control of the game.

The match got off to a frantic start as PSG were quickly on the front foot. Just eight minutes in, a dazzling run from PSG's winger, Amine Doue, set up Moussa Dembélé for the opener, giving the home side the early advantage. Lyon’s defense was further undone when Corentin Tolisso fouled Doue inside the box, resulting in a penalty for PSG. Vitinha stepped up and confidently slotted the penalty into the bottom right corner in the 14th minute, doubling PSG's lead.

PSG controlled possession for most of the match, enjoying nearly 70% of the ball, and their fluid attacking play left Lyon chasing shadows. However, Lyon managed to pull a goal back just before halftime. Rayan Cherki showed great skill to create space and find fellow attacker Giorgi Mikautadze, who calmly chipped the ball past PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to reduce the deficit.

Despite the goal, Lyon’s hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed in the second half. PSG continued to dominate, with Doue delivering another impressive performance, registering a second assist and having a goal disallowed for an offside in the build-up. Lyon’s chances were limited, with Lee and Barcola both squandering good opportunities to equalize.

In the 88th minute, the game was put to bed when PSG captain Sergio Ramos pounced on a rebound following a save from Lyon goalkeeper Vasilios Perri, ensuring all three points for the Parisians.

PSG’s dominance was reflected in their xG of 2.70, comfortably surpassing Lyon’s 1.02. Despite Lyon's spirited display, PSG were simply too creative and efficient in attack. This victory sees PSG extend their seven-point lead at the top of Ligue 1, while Lyon remain in fifth place.

The win also marks PSG’s third consecutive victory over Lyon in Ligue 1, equaling their longest unbeaten run against the club in the 21st century. With 11 wins and four draws from 15 games, PSG remain one of the three unbeaten teams in the top 10 European leagues, alongside Juventus and Galatasaray.

Next up, PSG will face Monaco in a midweek fixture on Wednesday, while Lyon have a break until the new year, when they will return to action against Nantes.
