NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko Rewards Super Eagles B with ₦10 Million for CHAN Qualification

In a remarkable gesture of support and appreciation, Mallam Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), has fulfilled a personal donation of ₦10 million to the Super Eagles B team. This comes after their impressive 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Galaxies in Uyo, which secured Nigeria’s spot at the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled for February 2025.

The announcement of this generous reward was made by NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, who initially intended to make a personal pledge to the team. However, Mallam Dikko stepped in, taking full responsibility for the gesture.

"Before the game, I made a personal pledge to reward the team if they emerged victorious," said Hon. Olopade. "When I shared this with the NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, he immediately applauded the idea but insisted that he would make the donation himself as a sign of solidarity and appreciation for the players’ efforts. It was a heartfelt moment that truly shows his passion for Nigerian football and the athletes who represent our country."

The victory in Uyo was nothing short of sensational. The Super Eagles B, cheered on by an electrified crowd at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, delivered a dominant performance. Sodiq Ismaila opened the scoring in the 18th minute, quickly followed by goals from Nduka Junior in the 21st minute and Saviour Isaac in the 25th minute. Despite Ghana’s Stephen Amenkona netting a consolation goal in the 71st minute, Nigeria maintained control to secure a well-deserved win.

The triumph underscores the team’s readiness for the 2025 CHAN tournament, which will exclusively feature players competing in African leagues. The tournament is set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from February 1 to 28.

Mallam Shehu Dikko’s leadership and generosity have not gone unnoticed, as the team and fans alike celebrate this milestone. His donation serves as a significant morale booster, highlighting his commitment to the growth of Nigerian football and the well-being of its athletes.

With their eyes now set on CHAN 2025, the Super Eagles B will undoubtedly aim to build on this success and make Nigeria proud on the continental stage.
