Nigeria’s Flamingos Crush Niger 9-0 in Maiden WAFU B U17 Girls Cup Match

The Nigeria U17 Women’s National Team, known as the Flamingos, delivered an emphatic performance in their opening match of the 2024 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup, defeating Niger 9-0 at the Centre Prampram Stadium in Ghana. This dominant result sends a strong message as Nigeria aims to lift the inaugural edition of the competition.

Nigeria’s attacking prowess was on full display, with Moshood Shakirat leading the charge, netting an incredible four goals. Her clinical finishing and consistent pressure on the Niger defense were key to Nigeria's overwhelming victory.

Meanwhile, Janet Akekoromowei added a hat-trick to her tally, providing further firepower and extending Nigeria’s lead throughout the match. The Flamingos' offensive juggernaut didn’t stop there—Aisha Animashaun and Peace Effiong each contributed a goal to cap off the 9-0 rout.

This stunning result puts Nigeria firmly at the top of Group B, with a goal difference that sets them apart from their closest competitors in the group, including Ivory Coast. The Flamingos now have three points and will be looking to build on this dominant performance in their next group-stage match.

Nigeria will face Ivory Coast in a crucial match on December 16, 2024, and a win could see them solidify their position as the group leader and take another step towards a deep run in the competition.

With such an impressive start, the Nigeria Flamingos have firmly placed themselves as one of the favorites in the tournament, showing both strength in attack and composure in defense. All eyes will now be on their next outing as they look to maintain their momentum in the quest for the 2024 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup title.
