Atletico Madrid Extend Winning Streak to 10 Matches with 3-1 Victory over Slovan Bratislava

Atletico Madrid cruised to their 10th consecutive victory across all competitions, dispatching a limited Slovan Bratislava 3-1 at the Metropolitano. The win keeps Diego Simeone’s side firmly in the hunt for a spot in the Champions League's top eight as they continue their impressive run of form.

From the outset, Atletico dominated proceedings, with an early goal from midfielder Alvarez setting the tone. Alvarez struck within the first 10 minutes, putting his team ahead in a match that they would control throughout. His strike partner, Antoine Griezmann, then took over, adding two more goals either side of the break, further cementing Atletico's superiority. Griezmann’s clinical finishing was on full display, and his brace helped the hosts ease to another convincing win.

Slovan Bratislava did pull one back shortly after halftime when Strelec earned and then converted a penalty, briefly igniting hopes of a comeback. However, the Slovakian champions rarely threatened to level the scoreline, with Atletico keeping them at arm's length. Despite a couple of close calls—most notably hitting the woodwork twice—Slovan failed to make any significant inroads into Atletico’s lead.

With an expected goals (xG) tally of just 0.21 compared to Atletico's 1.95, the statistical evidence reflects the one-sided nature of the game. Atletico were deserved winners, having created far more chances and played with greater intensity.

For Atletico Madrid, this victory is part of their longest winning streak in over a decade. Their 10-match run surpasses their previous best of 13 consecutive wins between August and October 2012. This streak demonstrates a side that has found a potent mix of consistency and clinical finishing.

In terms of their home form, Atletico Madrid has been nearly perfect in the Champions League since the start of last season. They’ve won seven of their last eight home matches in the competition, scoring at least two goals in each of those victories, underscoring their prowess at the Metropolitano.

On the other hand, Slovan Bratislava remains without a point in the group stage, having conceded 21 goals so far in the competition. Only FC Nordsjælland (22 goals conceded in 2012-13) has shipped more goals in the opening six matches of a Champions League group stage, highlighting the defensive struggles that have plagued the Slovakian side.

Looking ahead, Atletico Madrid will next host Bayer Leverkusen in their quest for a place in the Champions League knockout stages. Meanwhile, Slovan Bratislava will be searching for their first point of the campaign when they face Stuttgart at home next month.

For now, Atletico Madrid’s relentless pursuit of success continues, and with their current form, they look poised to challenge for even greater honors as the competition progresses.
