Kwara to Host Inaugural Beach Volleyball Tournament December 27-28

The first-ever Kwara Beach Volleyball Tournament is scheduled to take place on December 27-28, 2024, at WaterView Park in Ilorin, Kwara State. Organized to promote beach volleyball in Nigeria, the event is also expected to serve as a platform for identifying and nurturing new talent in the sport.

Dare Kuti, Media Assistant to Nigeria Volleyball Federation President, Engr. Musa Nimrod, announced the tournament at a press conference held on November 4, 2024. “This tournament will provide a vital platform for athletes to showcase their skills and passion,” Kuti said, emphasizing the event’s role in developing the sport and fostering camaraderie among participants from diverse backgrounds.

The competition is open to participants from military and paramilitary organizations, as well as students from tertiary institutions, creating an inclusive environment for competitors and promoting unity through sport.

The event has garnered support from various organizations, including the Kwara State Volleyball Association, Nigeria Volleyball Referees Association (Kwara State), University of Ilorin, Kwara State Sports Commission, and the Ministry of Youth Development. According to Kuti, partnerships with investors are essential to the tournament’s success and to strengthening beach volleyball’s presence in Nigeria.

Kuti also encouraged the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Kwara to promote the tournament and engage the community.

Additionally, he congratulated Engr. Musa Nimrod on his recent appointment as President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, calling it a significant achievement for Nigerian sports. The Kwara Beach Volleyball Tournament is expected to draw enthusiastic spectators and help position Nigeria as a key player in the sport within Africa.
