Bayern Munich Edge PSG 1-0 as 10-Man Paris Struggles at Allianz Arena

Bayern Munich secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over 10-man Paris Saint-Germain at the Allianz Arena, as they continued their strong start to the Champions League group stage. The Bundesliga giants dominated possession and had the better chances, with PSG’s hopes of getting back into the game seriously hampered by a red card for Ousmane Dembélé.

The match began with Bayern asserting themselves early, and they found the breakthrough in the 12th minute. Joshua Kimmich’s corner kick appeared to be heading towards goal when PSG goalkeeper Safonov attempted to punch it clear. However, the ball fell directly onto the head of Bayern’s Kim Min-jae, who made no mistake in nodding it into the net from close range to give the hosts a deserved 1-0 lead.

Bayern continued to press for a second, and Kingsley Coman had an excellent chance to double the advantage shortly after. After cutting inside from the wing, Coman chipped a delicate shot toward goal, but it sailed just over the crossbar and onto the roof of the net, much to his frustration.

The game took a dramatic turn in the second half when PSG’s Dembele, already on a yellow card, was shown a second booking for a reckless foul. His dismissal left Luis Enrique’s side with a mountain to climb, and Bayern quickly seized control of the match. Despite being a man down, PSG continued to struggle to break down Bayern's defense.

Bayern almost made it 2-0 when Jamal Musiala curled a shot towards goal, only to see it cannon off the post and keep the scoreline at 1-0. The Bavarians dominated proceedings, with an expected goals (xG) of 2.21 compared to PSG’s modest 0.88. While Bayern’s attacking play was dangerous throughout, PSG’s lack of creativity and failure to capitalize on a few isolated chances left them with little to show for their efforts.

For Bayern, it was a deserved win that saw them bounce back after recent disappointments in the competition, while PSG will be left to reflect on a second straight disappointing result in Europe. With just 11 shots and only 0.88 xG, the French side struggled to break down Bayern’s well-organized defense, and their task became even more difficult after Dembele’s sending-off.

Looking ahead, Bayern will travel to Shakhtar Donetsk in their next Champions League outing, while PSG will have to regroup quickly as they face a tough trip to RB Salzburg.

For Bayern, the victory puts them in a strong position at the top of their group, while PSG's European campaign continues to be marred by inconsistent performances.
