Super Eagles Edge Libya 1-0 in Tense AFCON Qualifier with Late Dele-Bashiru Strike

Nigeria secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Libya in their 2025 AFCON qualifier, thanks to a late goal from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo. The Super Eagles struggled to break down a resilient Libyan defense throughout the match, with Ademola Lookman having a potential goal ruled out for offside in the 83rd minute. Despite dominating possession and creating several chances, Nigeria found it difficult to breach the Libyan goalkeeper, who was in fine form.

The breakthrough came in the 85th minute when Dele-Bashiru, brought on as a substitute, slotted home after a sustained period of pressure, ensuring Nigeria took a crucial step toward securing their place in the tournament. 

The victory extends Nigeria's unbeaten record against Libya in competitive fixtures, with the Super Eagles having now won all five encounters against the North African side. However, the match also highlighted the need for greater efficiency in front of goal, as Nigeria missed several clear chances.
