Despite Nigeria’s spirited effort to claw back into the game, it was only in the dying moments that they managed to score. Olushola’s goal in the 90+1 minute came too late to alter the outcome, and Nigeria’s U20 squad bowed out of the tournament after a hard-fought battle.
Japan’s victory means they advance to the quarterfinals, while Nigeria’s journey in the tournament comes to a heartbreaking end. The Falconets, who showed great promise throughout the competition, will have to regroup and look forward to future opportunities.
