Over eight track athletes from Zambia are gearing up to compete in this year’s Douala 2024 Senior Africa Athletics Championship, set to take place in Cameroon from June 21 to 26, 2024. The event promises to be a pivotal moment for Zambian athletics, with athletes poised to showcase their talents and vie for top honors on the continental stage.
Leading Zambia’s contingent is Muzala Samukonga, the reigning 400m champion, who is eager to defend the title he secured in 2022 in Mauritius. Samukonga's determination and track record make him a formidable contender in his event, aiming to once again demonstrate his prowess on the African stage.
One of Zambia’s key objectives at the championships is the qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics, particularly for the men’s 4x400m relay team. The team sees this competition as a crucial opportunity to secure their spot in the prestigious global event, adding further motivation to their preparation and performance in Cameroon.
Similarly, the women’s 4x400m relay team, led by Rhodah Njobvu, is focused on achieving a competitive time that will propel them towards Olympic qualification. With teamwork and determination, they aim to deliver a standout performance that reflects their dedication and potential to compete among the world’s best in Paris this year.
The athletes have been training rigorously under the guidance of national coaches, fine-tuning their techniques and strategies to peak during the championships. Their preparations include intensive workouts and strategic planning to ensure they are in peak condition for the challenges ahead.
