In the aftermath of Nigeria's 1-1 draw against South Africa in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, Finidi George, the national team coach, addressed queries regarding the absence of Victor Boniface from the playing squad.
Boniface, the Bayer Leverkusen forward, remained an unused substitute throughout the encounter, prompting speculation and criticism from fans and media alike.
George, however, stood firm in his decision, stating, "Allow us to do our jobs." He explained that the team had plans to introduce Boniface and Terem Moffi, but circumstances forced a change in strategy. "Semi had a knock, and we had to take him off and introduce Moffi and Onyedika," he elaborated.
The coach acknowledged the pressure from fans and media to make changes during the game but emphasized the importance of trust in the coaching staff's decisions. "The fans and media would shout for different players, if they don't perform well, the shout will be, take him off. Allow us to do our jobs," George asserted.
