Grace Chanda, a prominent midfielder for the Zambia Women’s National Team, has made a significant move to the United States National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), joining Orlando Pride. This transfer follows a successful two-season spell at Madrid CFF in Spain.
A Milestone for Zambian Football
Chanda's move marks her as the second Zambian player at Orlando Pride and the third Zambian to compete in the NWSL, the premier league for women’s football in the United States. The trailblazer for Zambian players in the NWSL was forward Racheal Kundananji, who joined Bay FC in February. Kundananji's transfer was historic, making her the most expensive female player in the world.
Chanda’s Excitement and Ambitions
Expressing her enthusiasm, Chanda stated, "I am extremely excited to join Orlando. It is a great club, where I will be able to play alongside amazing players, like Marta and Barbra. This is a very important step in my life because I have always wanted to play in the NWSL, one of the best leagues in the world. I hope I can adapt quickly so that I can help my teammates and the club achieve greater things together. I’m looking forward to this amazing journey of my life."
Joining Forces with Barbra Banda
Chanda will be joining her compatriot and Copper Queens captain, Barbra Banda, who is currently the joint top scorer in the NWSL with eight goals. This Zambian duo is expected to make a significant impact on the league, bolstering Orlando Pride's attacking options.
Orlando Pride’s Current Standing
Orlando Pride is enjoying a strong season, currently sitting at the top of the NWSL table with 27 points, holding a two-point lead over second-placed Kansas City Current. The addition of Grace Chanda is anticipated to further strengthen the team's prospects as they aim to maintain their lead and achieve greater success.
