The fate of the Brazilian was decided this morning after being driven to the court in Barcelona in a police van, where he was also tried in early February.
The 40-year-old was arrested in January last year and have since been held on remand at Brians 2 Prison near the Catalan capital.
Alves prison terms includes five years of supervised release and restraining order for nine years and six months. Despite the sentence, Alves maintained that the sex with the woman was consensual.

According to Dani Alves Lawyer Ines Guardiola, "We are going to appeal. I still believe in Dani Alves' innocence. We haven't read the whole sentence yet because it's very long, but we are going to study it in detail now. We defend [Alves'] innocence."
Meanwhile, the father of two will be having his first night behind the bar today Thursday having found guilty of a sex offence.
