Birmingham City sack Wayne Rooney

Birmingham City have sacked their Men's First Team Coach Wayne Rooney, following the poor performance of the club under the former Manchester United Striker.

The former Derby County manager took charge at St. Andrew on 11 October 2023. When taking charge of the team, Birmingham was in 6th position, but he left the team at 20th spot on the Coca-Cola Championship log. Due to his unsatisfying performance, the club have sacked him on Tuesday.

Chief Executive Officer, Garry Cook, revealed the real reason why Rooney was sack, in a comment which reads as follows: “We are committed to doing what is necessary to bring success to St. Andrew’s.

“Unfortunately, Wayne’s time with us did not go as planned and we have decided to move in a different direction.

“The search for a successor begins with immediate effect and we will update supporters when we have further news."

Professional Development Coach, Steve Spooner, is expected to take charge of the Men's First Team matters on an interim basis, while he will be assisted by other available coaching staff.
