Sunshine Stars Deadly Attack: Ball Boy Shot, Team Manager, Players, other Officials seriously injured

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Sunshine Stars of Akure were attacked on Thursday along Ore-Benin Expressway to honour their league game slated for this weekend against Bendel Insurance of Benin.

In the horrible attack the team's Ball Boy was shot in the stomach, while Team Manager, players and officials were seriously injured.

According to the team media officer Michael Akintunde, "It saddens our hearts to inform Nigerians, especially football lovers that our team was attacked few minutes ago along Ore-Benin Expressway to honour an Elite League tie, against Insurance of Benin, scheduled for this weekend.

Our ball boy was shot in the horrible attack, Our team manager and other club officials including players are seriously injured .

It took the intervention of officers of the Federal Road Safety corp that helped rescue the injured officials and the shot individual to a nearby hospital.

In the attack, there is no report of loss of lives, but all the staff seriously affected are currently receiving treatments in the hospital.
