By Emmanuel Oladele - There is another Nigeria Super Eagles Star doing great things in the German Bundesliga, UEFA Europa League and could be the next Africa Player of the Year, if he's able to sustain and improve on his current performance. Victor Boniface is that Nigerian Super Eagles Star that could win the 2004 Africa Player of the Year.
Victor Okoh Boniface 23, currently plays as a striker for German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, the Akure born forward has been in superlative form for his club since joining on 22 July 2023, Boniface signed for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen on a contract until 2028 from Belgium side Union Saint-Gilloise. The Nigerian International made his Bundesliga debut on August 19 as a starter, where his side defeated RB Leipzig by 3-2.
So far, Boniface has scored 10 goals and 7 assists in 16 league appearances for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this season. What a performance! The former Union Saint-Gilloise star is currently among the top scorers and top assists in the German Bundesliga this season. Also, in the Europa League, the prolific goalscorer has scored 4 goals and 1 assist to his credit in five appearances.
Because of Boniface super performance, the players has won Bundesliga Rookie of the month award five times consecutively. Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten this season and currently top the German Bundesliga log with 42 points ahead of Bayern Munich which has 38 points. Should the player sustain and improve on his current form, he's in a good position to win the next Africa Player of the Year Award.
After spending just six months in the German Bundesliga, Boniface is now wanted by top Serie A clubs, AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is the reigning Africa Player of the Year, an award he won in December 2023 ahead of Mohamed Salah and Ahcraf Hakimi, another Super Eagles Star Victor Boniface is again going the direction of Victor Osimhen to win the award in 2024 with his great performances in the German Bundesliga and the Europa League.
