U-17 AFCON: Nigeria show class in win over Zambia - Algeria 2023

By Emmanuel Oladele - The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Sunday evening outclassed the Baby Chipolopolo of Zambia with a 1-0 win in the ongoing 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Matchday 1 at Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui in Constantine.

Nigeria's Favour Daniel scored the only goal of the encounter in the 77th as the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria earned their first three points of the tournament in their first game.

The Nduka Ugbade's led side dominated possession and had 16 shots, out of which six were on target, while the remaining 10 went off target. Nigeria should have gotten more goals but were unable to convert their dominance in the game to a more better result. See detailed result below;

Nigeria's Yahaya Lawali was named the player of the match.

After the 1-0 win over Zambia, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria are now second in Group B with three points, though they shared same number of points with Morocco who currently top the Group, but the Moroccans are better with goals, while Zambia and South Africa are third and fourth respectively with no point. 

Meanwhile, in the second Group B matchday 1 game played on Sunday, Morocco U-17 defeated South Africa U-17 by 2-0.

Nigeria's next game will be against Morocco on Wednesday 3rd May, 2023 at 17:00 Nigeria Time.
