By Daniel Oriloye - Burnley made an immediate return to the Premier League on Friday night after their 2-1 win at Middlesbrough confirmed their promotion from the Championship with seven games to the end of the season.
The Clarets is on a 19-game unbeaten league run and are 19 points clear in the automatic promotion places after 39 matches and hold an 11-point cushion over second-placed Sheffield United. Ashley Barnes and Connor Roberts scored Burnley’s goals at the Riverside Stadium.
Kompany took charge at Turf Moor in June last year after Burnley had been relegated to the Championship following six consecutive seasons in the EPL.
His team have taken 87 points from their first 39 league games this season.
Burnley are now guaranteed to finish first or second in the table.
If they win all of their remaining seven games, Burnley will break the EFL Championship points record, set at 106 by Reading in the 2005/06 campaign.
Just four more wins would be enough to guarantee that Burnley end the season as Championship champions.
