12 NPFL top teams to participate in the upcoming Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation football tournament

By Daniel Oriloye - A record-breaking fee of about ₦1.5 billion prize pool has been established for the Dozy Mmobuosi football tournament, which the winning team will walk away with ₦1 billion, while the runners-up will receive ₦200 million. Additionally, each participating team will be granted an appearance fee of ₦20 million.

The Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation (DMF), in partnership with the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is excited to announce 2023 Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup Football Tournament with 12 NPFL top teams.

Dozy Mmobuosi explains the decision to expand "The increased funding will allow teams to invest more resources in players, facilities, and infrastructure, attracting top talent to the league, and raising the overall standard of football in Nigeria,"

Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman of the NPFL Interim Management Committee, has welcomed the partnership. He sees the tournament as a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talent in the league, promote Nigerian football to a broader audience, and inspire teams and players to contribute to the growth of the sport in the country.

To ensure the smooth and successful execution of the tournament, a joint organising committee has been established comprising members from both the Foundation and the NPFL.

The inaugural edition of the Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup Tournament took place in November 2022 in Lagos, where Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan emerged as the champions, winning the first prize of ₦100 million. Enyimba FC of Aba claimed the runner-up position, earning prize money of ₦30 million.
