POST-MATCH REPORT
Match report: Rivers United 2-1 Niger Tornadoes
WHAT HAPPENED
Kazie Enyinnaya and Ebube Duru got the goals that saw off a doughty Niger Tornadoes side - but it was Ukeme Williams who stole the show with a five star performance.
The midfield mestro signed from Gombe United was outstanding, full of clever flicks and turns. And there was substance as well as style, not least when Williams' pinpoint cross from a corner kick set up Kazie Enyinnaya for the games opener.
Kazie Enyinnaya headed the Pride of Rivers ahead with a typically tenacious piece of play direct from the training ground, holding off two defenders and heading in a well executed corner kick in the 7th minute.
Waheed Adebayo equalized from the penalty spot just after the half hour mark and the visitors did look capable of springing a shock.
But Ebube Duru's goal two minutes later from a well struck free kick 20 yards out proved decisive.
It was a battle at times, but ultimately the pace, flair and doggedness of the Stanley Eguma tutored side was too much for Niger Tornadoes. And Ukeme Williams? He was different class.
