CBN extends the deadline for return of old naira notes

By Emmanuel Oladele - The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Sunday has extended the deadline for return of old notes (200, 500 and 1,000 naira).

Following the meeting of the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele with President Muhammadu Buhari, the CBN Governor approved the use of the old naira notes till February 10th, 2023, and exchange of old notes deadline till February 17th, 2023.

The Central of Nigeria took to their verified Twitter handle on Sunday afternoon to tweet the update in a post which reads as follows; "Central Bank of Nigeria extends the deadline for the return of old series of 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes from January 31, 2023, to February 10, 2023, to allow for the collection of more old notes."

Also, the Government of Nigeria confirmed the update on their verified Twitter handle in a post which reads as follows; "President Muhammadu Buhari receives Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, approves extension of use of old notes deadline till Feb. 10, 2023 and exchange of old notes deadline till Feb. 17, 2023."
