By Emmanuel Oladele - Super Falcons of Nigeria forward Asisat Oshoala has received the Pichichi Trophy for emerging as the 2021/22 season top goalscorer in the Spanish Primera Division Women League with 20 goals. Oshoala received the award alongside Brazilian and Madrid CFF's forward Geyse Ferriera who equally scored 20 goals in 27 appearances for her club.
The 28-year-old Oshoala was instrumental to his side winning the third Liga title in a row and seven overall. She scored a total of 20 goals in 19 appearances which made her to be one of the top players in Europe last season. In the 2021/22 season, Barcelona Femeni made history by winning all their 30 games of the season.
In August, Oshoala was nominated for the 2022 Ballon d'Or Feminin, making her the first Africans to be nominated for the award. The Barcelona forward is also the first Nigerian and African Woman to win the Pichichi award.
Pichichi is awarded by Sports Newspaper Marca to Spanish Primera Division Women League top goalscorer. Both Asisat Oshoala and Geyse Ferriera officially received their Trophies on Monday in the award ceremony.
