By Emmanuel Oladele - African Giants Morocco were defeated 2-1 by Croatia in the third place game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to end their heroic display at the tournament without medals.
Gvardiol opened scoring for Croatia in the 7th minute of the encounter, two minutes later Moroccan ace Dari cancelled Croatia's lead with a superb goal to restore parity to the North Africans, but Oršić restored the lead for the European side in the 42nd minutes to put his side in a good position to earn the bronze medal. Gvardiol and Oršić strikes were enough to fire the Luka Modric lead side to win the bronze medal on Saturday.
Despite a third place loss for Morocco, they finished the tournament on a high note, emerging as the first African side to reach World Cup Semi-Final, moreover, eliminating the likes of Spain and Portugal in the round of 16 and Quarter-final respectively, makes them one of the most successful teams in the tournament.
Morocco will be remembered for their heroic finish in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, despite not winning a medal.
