By Daniel Oriloye - FIFA president Gianni Infantino has announced that starting in 2025, the Club World Cup format will change.
“The new men’s club world cup will take place in 2025 and feature 32 teams. 32-team tournament will go ahead, making it like a World Cup,” Infantino said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
At the moment, FIFA did not present additional information about the new competition.
It was reported that FIFA wants to host a Club World Cup every four years because the current format attracts little interest outside South America.
However, there are no clear plans regarding the qualification mechanism at the moment, and discussions regarding broadcasting rights and commercial partners have not started either.
