CAFCC: Rivers United advance to Group Stage, Plateau United crash out

By Emmanuel Oladele - Rivers United on Wednesday did Nigerians proud in the CAF Confederation Cup Play-off second leg, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Champions played a 1-1 with Libyan side Al Nasr Benghazi to reach the Group Stage of the CAF Confederation Cup. Nyima Nwagua scored Rivers United's only goal in the game. The fixture ended 6-1 on aggregate following a 5-0 thrashing of the Libyan side in the first leg in Nigeria last week.

On the other hand, Nigeria's second representative in the competition, Plateau United were thrashed 3-0 by Al Akhdar SC to take the scoreline to 4-4 on aggregate, the Libyan side progress to the group stage on away goal rule. Recall, tthe first leg encounter in Nigeria ended 4-1. Meanwhile, Plateau United have been eliminated from the competition.

Congratulations to Rivers United, they are through to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, and they are now the only Nigerian team left in CAF Competition for this season..
