2022 FIFA U17 WWC: Nigeria's Flamingos beat United States to reach first Semi-final

By Emmanuel Oladele - The Nigeria U17 National Women's Team on Friday beat a very talented United States U17 National Women's Team by 4-3 in penalty shootout to reach the first semi-final of the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup.

Omamuzo Josephine Edafe's spot kick and Amalia Martina Villarreal's strike in the 26th and 40th minutes respectively put the game in 1-1 draw till the end of normal time. The United States side dominated the game from start to finish but failed to take their scoring chances.

At the end of regular time, the game went straight into penalties and it was the Flamingos' day. Despite Comfort Folorunsho miss in the penalty shootout, Nigeria won on penalties by 4-3. Substitute Chikamso Jiwuaku was the heroine for the Flamingos as she saved United States' fifth penalty, while Omamuzo Josephine Edafe scored the final penalty for Nigeria.

This is the first time Nigeria are reaching the semi-final of FIFA U17 Women World Cup after several attempts.

The Bankole Olowooke's led side will play the winner of the quarter-final game between Colombia and Tanzania in the semi-final.

Congratulations to Nigeria's Flamingos.
