2022 WAFCON: Results of the Two Quarter-Final Games played on Wednesday, Goalscorers and Others

By Emmanuel Oladele - Two quarter-final games of the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) were played on Wednesday in Morocco. At the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Zambia defeated Senegal by 4-2 on penalties. After the regular time ended 1-1 and the extra time produced no goal, it was Zambia who progresses after the shootout. See details below;

In the  second game of the day, Morocco recorded a slim 2-1 win over Botswana at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. It was a difficult game for the Moroccans despite dominating the major part of the encounter, but the Botswana's Ladies were not an easy push over, yet the Moroccans were the better side at the and of 90 minutes. As things stand, Zambia and Morocco are through to the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia/New Zealand.

Also, Zambia will face the winner of the quarterfinal game between South Africa and Tunisia in the semi-final, while Morocco will trade tackles with the winner of the quarterfinal game between Cameroon and Nigeria in their own semi-final. The two semifinals holds on Monday 18th July.

Meanwhile, Senegal and Botswana hope of playing in 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup is still alive, as they will be playing in the Repechage on Sunday 17th July. In the Repechage phase, the losers of the quarterfinals will face off, two winners will emerge and will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs, a world cup qualifier involving teams from other confederation.
