Meanwhile, despite Rivers United 2-1 loss to Nasarawa United on Sunday, they have emerged Champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2021/22 Season. The Portharcourt based team clinched the title following Plateau United 2-1 loss to Akwa United on Saturday, the loss put Rivers United 10 points clear off Plateau United who have just three games left, and the three remaining games can only fetch them a total nine points which will not be enough to catch up with the Rivers State owned Team.

Congratulations Rivers United, they are the 2021/22 NPFL Champions.
