India 2022: Nigeria's U17 Girls Wallops DR Congo in Kinshasa - Match Video Highlights

By Emmanuel Oladele - The Nigeria's U17 Girls fondly called Flamingos on Sunday thrashed DR Congo U17 Girls by 3-0 in the second round of the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup Qualifier first leg encounter in Kinshasa.

Blessing Emmanuel gave Nigeria the first goal of the afternoon in the 36th minute with a superb shot from inside the 18-yard-box, and ends the first half on a 1-0 scoreline in favour of Flamingos.

In the second half, Raheemot Adebayo and Anastasia Atume replaced Aminat Bello and Kafayat Bashiru in the 63rd minute, the substitution immediately yielded result as Atume was fouled near Congolese area, giving Tumininu Adesina the chance to score Nigeria second goal from a free-kick.

In the 76th minute, Taiwo Ajakaye went past the Congolese defence, taking off goalkeeper Lumela and brilliantly scored the third goal of the game.


Bankole Olowookere's led side missed a lot of goal chances in the encounter where the Flamingos dominated the game from start till finish.

Congolese Nwaji was recarded in the 70th minute, leaving the Congolese to finished the game with 10 players.

The second leg of the fixture holds on Saturday, 19th March at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Nigeria's Flamingos will be going into the game with a 3-0 advantage. A win for Nigeria in the second round will see the Flamingos meet Egypt U17 Girls in the third round.
