CAFCC: Al Masry ends Rivers United's hope of advancing to the Group Stage

By Emmanuel Oladele - On Sunday in the CAF Confederation Cup, Al Masry of Egypt defeated Rivers United by 1-0 to end the Portharcourt based team hope of advancing into the Group Stage of the Competition.

Al Masry's Mohamed Abdel Latif scored in the 12th minute of the first half to secure a vital victory for the Egyptian side at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria. Recall, the Nigerian side defeated Al Masry in the first leg by 2-1 in Nigeria last weekend, they entered into Sunday's game with a 2-1 advantage, before Al Masry's lone strike in yesterday's second leg fixture put the scoreline 2-2 on aggregate, but the Egyptian side advanced to the group stage on away goal rule.

This is the second consecutive time in two years that Rivers United have crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup during play-off under coach Stanley Eguma.
