Rivers United crash out of CAF Champions League, dropped to Confederation Cup

By Emmanuel Oladele - Nigeria Professional Football League Giants Rivers United have crashed out of this season CAF Champions League, following a 1-0 defeat to Al-Hilal of Sudan on Sunday. Recall, the first leg of the encounter in Nigeria ended 1-1, giving the Sudanese club an away goal advantage into the second leg. Following Sunday's 1-0 win for Al Hilal, they have won the fixture with 2-1 on aggregate.

The scoreline means the the only Nigerian club left in this season CAF Champions League have crashed out and dropped to CAF Confederation Cup playoff.


In recent time, Nigerian clubs have not been doing well in the competition, NPFL Champions Akwa United were also eliminated earlier before now, meaning that the league clubs in Nigeria lacks the qualities to match top teams from other leagues in Africa.

After the entire game time, it's Al-Hilal 1-0 Rivers United, and 2-1 on aggregate in favour of Al-Hilal, so it ended at the New Suez Stadium in Egypt on Sunday in CAF Champions League preliminaries.
