The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr Mrs Ipalibo Harry Banigo had on behalf of Gov Wike announced the pledge of $100,000 for a win shortly before the commencement of the Young Africans match in Port Harcourt.

Barrister Green said the gesture was in fulfillment of the Governor's earlier promise to support and motivate the team to success.

He said, "As you can see, the boys are on top of excitement. They are very happy. It is a moral booster. You can see they are ready to go, and I know if it means them dying on the field on that day, they are going to die.

"Football is like a proverbial biscuit, but they are going to take it and give it their all. I'm 100% sure".

He also assured that His Excellency Governor Wike who is a gift to Rivers State and Nigeria is ready to do more for the team

"Except you don't know Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike and I'm quite sure even in Nigeria and beyond, everyone knows the kind of person he is.

"I can say this without any equivocation.  I can say this without any contradiction that this man is God sent not only to Rivers State but Nigeria as a whole".

"As you have witnessed, this is first of its kind in Nigeria - even the Super Eagles don't get this kind of gesture.

"As the team is going that is how he is going to increase the bar".

Responding on behalf of the team, Captain Festus Austin, expressed gratitude to Governor Wike for his Fatherly love and he also assured that come Sunday, the victory song is assured.
