The Nigerian soccer family, League Management Company, Nigeria Professional Football League and most importantly, the Nigeria Football Federation are worried as one of most reputable elite club in the country had an auto crash.
Akwa United of Uyo were involved in an accident which saw their team bus collides with a heavy-duty truck along Ezionye Express road in Enugu state, South Eastern Nigeria.
According to any official statement on the club's social media page, Akwa United were on their way to officially honour a Nigeria Professional Football League clash with Jigawa Golden Stars which is a Match-day 15 fixture slated for the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna state.
In the unfortunate event, the media department reported that players and officials sustained injuries with one player and two non-playing staff been rushed to the nearby hospital for proper medication.
Fans and stakeholders are however worried about the act of travelling by road as adopted by many professional teams in Nigeria due to insufficient funds.
It must be noted that the bus is a customized one which is also used by the Super Eagles for their official international matches in Uyo.
It is yet to be known if the match between Jigawa Golden Stars and Akwa United will still go ahead this weekend as scheduled but it is not the first time a Nigeria Professional Football League team will be involved in an auto crash this season.
Wikki Tourist were also involved in an accident last month on their way to Uyo for a fixture with Dakkada FC and their bus was consumed by fire.
