The home team took the lead after Udeagha played a trickish free kick that caught Rivers United goalie off guard and found the back of the net putting the tourists ahead.
Wikki Tourists continued their pressure on the league leaders but the visitors were able to contain it until end of first half.
On resumption into the second half, changes were introduced by both sides with Wikki Tourists creating more chances proving the effectiveness of the changes.
Nasiru Jibrin and Jimmy Ambrose who came in as substitutes to Promise Damala and Mathew Emmanuel increased the pressure on Rivers United but their effort was not enough to add another goal for the home team.
Nasiru Jibrin's stay in the field was short-lived in the 70' when he picked an injury and had to give way to Sale Ibrahim.
Rivers United who came to the match with the league leadership strength behind them managed to contain the one goal lead by Wikki till end of the game at 90+5.
In a post match briefing Wikki Tourists gaffer Usman Abd'Allah Shariff said it was a tough match for his team and praised the players for their zeal and commitment that led to the victory.
This is our first win in the four weeks old season and the win means a lot to us.
This is relatively a new team and we are gradually blending hoping that this will be the beginning of more wins in the league,Shariff prayed.
The Wikki Tourists tactician also showered encomiums on the Rivers United team describing them as experienced.
