I Won't Apologise For My FIFA World Cup Miss - Yakubu Aiyegbeni

By Olamide Oyetunji - Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni is not bothered by aftermath events as he has opened up about his FIFA World Cup forgettable memory.

Yakubu Aiyebgeni who is known for his unrivalled goalscoring ability in the English Premier League is insisting that he will never apologize for the memorable FIFA World miss.

It is almost eleven years since the incident occurred but many Super Eagles fans are basically using it to summarize the career of the former Everton striker.

However, Yakubu Aiyegbeni has come out to insist that he wll never apologise for missing the golden opportunity at the South Africa 2010 World Cup because he has scored many goals for the country before.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni missed the glorious chance to put Nigeria ahead at the must-win group game that took place at Durban Stadium on June 22, 2010 in the Rainbow nation.

The game was the last group match for Nigeria against the South Koreans with a win enough to take Nigeria to the knockout phase even though the team suffer two defeats earlier to Argentina and Greece.

Speaking on Wednesday during an interview tagged Live with Yak on NationTV, Aiyegbeni confidently stated that he has no apology for the miss.

Many Nigerians are unpleased with the former Portsmouth, Leicester City and Middlesbrough striker over the epic miss during the 2010 FIFA World Cup Group B match between Nigeria and South Korea.

“I won’t apologise at all. Why should I? I have scored so many goals for Nigeria too. I have sacrificed a lot for the country. Did anyone apologise to me?

“I cannot apologise because it wasn’t a deliberate miss. I seriously wanted to score. But it wasn’t to be. So many have strikers have missed chances too and nobody will apologise so I won’t.”
