By Emmanuel Oladele - Nigeria Professional Football League side Rivers United on Saturday walloped their CAF Confederation Cup counterparts, Bloemfontein Celtic to set a date with fellow league team Enyimba, 3-0 it ended at the Stade Charles de Gualle in Port Novo, Benin Republic.
Former Rangers forward Godwin Aguda scored in the very first minute of the game to give Rivers United the lead and doubled his effort in the 45+4 minutes to end the first half 2-0 in favour of the Porthacourt based team.
The second half produced just one goal for the host as Fortune Omoniwari's strike in the 49th minute sealed the victory for Rivers United who will face Enyimba in the final round that precedes the group stage of the competition.
Recall that Rivers United defeated Celtic in South Africa by 2-0 in the first leg before the second leg 3-0 in Port Novo to take the scoreline to 5-0 on aggregate. Meanwhile, Rivers United could not host the South African side on their home soil due to strict COVID-19 protocols by the Nigeria Government, the game was postponed and Port Novo in Benin was chosen by the home team to host the game as Benin has fair COVID-19 protocols.
After the entire game time, it Rivers United 3-0 Bloemfontein Celtic of South Africa (Rivers United 5-0 Bloemfontein Celtic, on aggregate), so it ended at the Stade Charles de Gualle in Port Novo, Benin Republic.
