By Olamide Oyetunji - Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has declared that it will be a very difficult task for him to break the goalscoring record of the Nigerian male senior national team held by the late Rashidi Yekini.
Responding to virtual questions from the Nigerian media for the Super Eagles versus Leone stars of Sierra Leone in Benin City for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, Victor Osimhen believes it will be very tough for anyone to break the record.
It must be recalled that Rashidi Yekini scored 37 goals as a Nigerian international , and represented the nation in five major tournaments, including two World Cups where he scored the country's first-ever goal in the competition.
"Filling in the shoes of Rashidi Yekini is kinda heavy for me but I think I’m on the right path.
“If I’m injury free I think I can achieve this feat but it won't be easy. But with the confidence the coach has in me ans support from the fans, it's achievable."
The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner has scored 4 times in nine appearances but at age 21, the Napoli forward believe he can break the goalscoring record.
