Sierra Leone fought back from 4-0 down away to Nigeria to draw 4-4 on Friday in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier after a spectacular comeback in Benin City.
Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi scored twice while Napoli forward Victor Osimhen found the back of the net on his return to Nigeria’s team with Samuel Chukwueze also involved in the act of goal scoring.
Sierra Leone began their stunning fightback just before half-time when Kwame Quee grabbed what looked to be a consolation goal.
Alhaji Kamara began to stamp his mark on the match. He added a second for the visitors after 72 minutes to make it 4-2.
Mustapha Bundu then added a third for Sierra Leone to make it 4-3 with 10 minutes remaining and Nigeria were left stunned as Alhaji Kamara completed an astonishing performance by his team with an equaliser four minutes from time.
The Super Eagles were coasting towards a third win from three in Group L after racing to a 4-0 lead inside the first half hour of the match.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone striker Kei Kamara is one of the few players that has taken the celebration to social media after the game.
The 36-year-old Major League Soccer star is delighted with the solitary point his team acquired inside the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
"We didn’t Win I know, but this is ranked very high. We were down 4-0 to one of the best in Africa, in their home country of Nigeria (@ng_supereagles) and to comeback and grab a point (4-4) it’s just incredible.
"If you don’t know these boys, just know they love you Mama Salone."
It must be recalled that Kei Kamara was in the headlines few days ago for criticising the Nigerian hospitality with particular emphasis on the Bed and Pillows in his hotel room.
