Nigeria in Tug of War With Italy and England For Young Footballer

By Olamide Oyetunji - Nigeria could enter another international battle for a growing prospect in the Scottish Premier League.

According to reports, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is currently monitoring Rangers left-back Calvin Bassey who is an emerging talent for the Gers.

Rangers General manager Steven Gerrard is giving quality minutes to the 21-year-old despite his little experience as a professional footballer.

Calvin Bassey has proven to be a reliable deputy to Croatia defender Borna Barisic and he was brilliant in their comfortable 2-0 over Livingston.

Gernot Rohr watched the game to ascertain the fitness of Joe Aribo for the upcoming 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and Aribo eventually scored one of the goals for Rangers.

Calvin Bassey is a former Leicester City player and he is eligible to play for Nigeria, Italy and England through his background and citizenship.

It is left to be seen if Gernot Rohr will inform the Nigeria Football Federation for permission to bring him to book for the November international engagements.
