Maduka Okoye Set to Bench Uzoho and Akpeyi Versus Sierra Leone

The 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers is fast approaching as the various senior national teams in Africa will be trading tackles for representation at the continental showpiece.

Nigeria will be hoping to pick one of the tickets when they collide with Sierra Leone in a double header scheduled for November with six points up for grabs.

After winning their first two matches against Benin Republic and Lesotho in November 2019, maintenance and sustainability of the winning streak will ensure a clean passage with two matches to spare.

However, the goalkeeping position in the Super Eagles team will be crucial in ensuring that the team scale through two years ahead of the competition.

Meanwhile, reports from several media outlets has suggested that goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is the current favourite to stand in-between the sticks for Nigeria.

The goalkeeper of German descent has been spectacular in recent outings for the team with the gaffer Gernot Rohr trusting him with all the minutes against Algeria and Tunisia.

Francis Uzoho who was the number one at the 2018 FIFA World Cup just recovered from the injury he sustained in an international exhibition versus Brazil last year while veteran goalie Daniel Akpeyi is yet to get action in the DSTV South African Premiership in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs.
