By Edikan Akpan - Robert Lewandowski exceptionally secured a very special treble of his own as he finished the Champions League season as the top goalscorer.
He topped the goalscoring table in the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup in 2019/20, the Bayern forward also scored more goals than any player in Europe this season. This is also the first time since 2006/07 (when Kaká claimed the crown) that neither Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi have been top scorer.
“He’s just had an incredible season,” said Bayern Munich CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
The 32-year-old Polish striker becomes the first Bayern player to be the top goalscorer in the Champions League. In the preceding competition, the European Cup, Dieter Hoeneß, Gerd Müller and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge all claimed the crown.
The latter highlighted the importance of the star striker before the final and reiterated that Lewandowski also deserves to be named the best men’s player in the world.
